Умовні речення другого типу в англійській мові описують події теперішнього і майбутнього часу. Ситуації, описані в таких Реченнях, нереальні (неможливі, неймовірні, воображаемы). Такі речення мають неможливий, гіпотетичний відтінок. Зверніть увагу, що на дані речення переводяться в умовному способі, з часткою "б".

Наприклад:
If you asked, they would help you.
Якщо б ти попросив вони б допомогли тобі.

If it rained you would get wet.
Якщо б пішов дощ, ти б промок.

If you loved her, she would love you.
Якщо б ти любив її, вона б любила тебе.

would buy a new car if I had more money.
Я б купив нову машину, якщо б у мене більше грошей.

He would pass the exam if he studied more.
Він б здав іспит, якщо б більше займався.

would lower the taxes if I were the President.
Я б знизив податки, якщо б я президентом.

Конструкція (оборот) to be going to в англійській мові вживається часто, тому правила її утворення потрібно знати. На українську ця конструкція зазвичай перекладається як мати намірзбиратисяпланувати.

 

I’m going to work in summer. – Я збираюся працювати цим літом.

У заперечних реченнях до дієслова to be додається частка not:

I‘m not going to do this. – Я не збираюся це робити.

У питальних реченнях дієслово to be ставиться на початок речення:

Are you going to stay with us? – Чи збираєшся ти залишитися з нами?

Випадки вживання to be going to

To be going to використовується у наступних випадках:

1. Вираження наміру зробити щось у майбутньому:

am going to send him a telegram.  - Я збираюся надіслати йому телеграму.

We’re going to get married in June. – Ми плануємо оженитися в червні.

2. Вираження можливого майбутнього, ознаки якого є вже зараз:

Watch out! Those boxes are going to fall over!  - Обережно! Ці коробки зараз впадуть!

The sky is clearing up; the rain is going to stop soon.  - Небо розвиднюється; дощ скоро закінчиться.

3. Але запам’ятайте, що to be going to не бажано використовувати з дієсловами to go та to come аби запобігти тавтології. Замість цього використовується Present Continuous:

He is going to come here. -> He is coming here.

When are you going to go to home? -> When are you going home?

Для всіх інших випадків використовується допоміжне слово will / shall у майбутньому часі.

Sports Day

          Most schools in England have a sports day once a year, in the late spring or in the summer. As my school is in London, in a place with no playing-field, we go to a special running track which belongs to the London County Council.
          The sports day is looked forward to by the whole school. On that day we have no lessons. We look at the sky every day for a week beforehand, hoping that it will be fine; even if we cannot have a real sunny day, at least we don’t want any rain.
          We go to school on the day itself, the sky is blue with no clouds, but we take a mackintosh with us in case; we also take a packed lunch. Outside the school is a fleet of buses to take us to the field. It is half an hour’s ride.
          When we arrive, all the competitors change into their sports clothes, shorts and shirts or vests, and the spectators find places on the sloping banks round the track, ready to cheer up their teams. The running track is circular and inside it, there are places for high jump, the long jump, throwing the discus and the hurdles races. All these events take place at the same time as the running, so there is plenty to watch. There is a large blackboard on which the results are chalked up for all to see, and as the day goes on it is possible to see which team is ahead or has the best chance of winning.
          Our school is divided into six teams, or, as we call them, ‘houses’; each ‘house’ has a different colour and the competitors wear the colour of their ‘house’. The ‘house’ with the most points at the end of the day wins a trophy, either a shield or a cup.

             Television and Advertisement

Many people have forgotten what the world was like before TV. But today it has become an integral part of our lives. No medium can compare with TV as a means of information, entertainment & education. TV now plays such an important role in so many people's lives that it is essential for us to try to decide whether it is bad or good.

First of all, TV is not only a convenient source of entertainment, but also a comparatively cheap one. For a family of 4, for example, it is more convenient as well as cheaper to sit comfortably at home than to go out. They don't have to pay for expensive tickets. All they have to do is to turn on TV and they can see films, political discussions and the latest exciting football matches. Some people say that this is fist where the danger lies. The TV viewers need do nothing: they make no choices, they're completely passive & don't even use their legs.

TV, people often say, informs about current events and the latest developments in science and politics. A lot of good films, music programs have appeared recently on TV. Yet here again there is a danger. We get to like watching TV so much that it begins to dominate our lives. A friend of mine told me that when his TV set broke he & his family suddenly found that they had much more time to do things.

The most important thing which is really criticizing is poor quality of the programs and its harmful effect on children. For example the film "Natural Born Killers" teaches children to kill and there was one accident in France when a group of teenagers kill their parents.

There are many arguments for and against TV. I think we must understand that TV in itself is neither good nor bad. TV is as good or as bad as we make it.
